A year ago, I made a big mistake that every wife or girlfriend would hate me for: I bought Peter a PlayStation 4 as an anniversary present. Instead of actually curbing my husband’s gamer lifestyle from his single days, I actually egged him on by buying him a console and some games to boot. Fast forward to a year later: we have a Playstation4, a Nintendo Switch, 2 Xbox 360s, and a Nintendo 3DS. With all these games that we accumulated, Peter knew he had to buy a gaming center. We searched far and wide for the following qualities: narrow (because we don’t have much space), tall (looks better than something wide and fat) and easy to set up (because Peter is not that great at building things, and I end up yelling at him anyway). Enter…Brightech’s Floor Lamp.
When we got approached to review one of their lamps, I was immediately drawn to the Maxwell Drawer, a 3-in-1 item that is part lamp, part drawer, part bookshelf. Surely, this could be the answer to our gaming problems – a tall, thin bookcase that we can wedge in the corner of our TV and air-conditioning unit, that also has drawer space to store our controllers and extra batteries and also provides nice LED lighting to top it off.
The lamp/drawer came in a relatively small and light box, given what the final product was going to be. We unpacked everything and didn’t need to flip through pages of instructions because there was only one page, with very easy instructions to follow. All we needed was a screwdriver; they provided the rest. Perfect for people who are not so handy (i.e Peter)
Anyway, over the past year we have accumulated over 100 games (most of them with their original plastic cases) because we have become game nerds/collectors and it was getting very old staring at our piles of games on the carpet next to the TV. We didn’t want to get a big hutch or some fancy bookshelf, so we pretty much settled on getting something from IKEA, until we got this opportunity. While we like IKEA a lot, we didn’t see anything like this at our local store.
We were able to store the following:
So, the secret to every good marriage is a bit of compromise. While most of the games pictured on the shelf is Peter’s, I also have a few games thrown in there – mostly Nintendo games, and the Funko toys (except Batman) are mine. I’m very impressed with this drawer/lamp set. It fits perfectly in very small nooks and crannies, and since we have a small town house, we can use all the spaces for organization that we can get. I’m considering getting another one for our bedroom to put in some notebooks and books, but maybe next time!
You can buy the same lamp as we did, which is by a company called Brightech, called the Maxwell Drawer on Amazon, or on their official website. It goes for around $85 + tax.
