    Lonely Planet Ultimate Travel List

If you’re a new reader of our blog (or a follower), you would know that I love lists — and I try to scratch off as many to-dos as I can. So, while I was browsing around the library looking for the next thing to read, I stumbled upon Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel List. Its claim? The 500 best places to see – ranked. I am not really a firm believer in rankings, but seeing as I only have a few weeks to keep this book, I’d much rather note down all the destinations and slowly scratch them off my list of places to see. Yes, even on top of…

    Alex Prokaj’s Birth Story

Birth stories are fairly common now and each and every one is unique. Here is our own son’s birth story, which occurred this October 2019. Saturday. October 19, 2019 It was a rather rainy day. We had a full day planned ahead but unfortunately most of it got derailed by the weather. Our morning was supposed to start with us going around our community looking for garage sale finds. When the rain finally let up around 11am, we went out and walked around our street to see if anyone was selling anything but maybe the weather put everybody off the garage sale. Oh well. There was a Choose FI meetup…

Book Review: How to Invest in Real Estate (Joshua Dorkin & Brandon Turner)

In an effort to become financially independent, we have discovered the BiggerPockets website, a site focusing on real estate and the various ins and outs of it. Back in 2015, after we bought our first house and started house hacking (by renting out our spare room), we realized the benefits of real estate investing and we wanted to add it our financial independence strategy. In 2016, we bought our first investment property, a buy-and-hold rental around 20 minutes south from our place. We then bought the Biggerpockets Guide to Managing Rental Properties (at the time these books were not available in our library), and it has been an invaluable source…

  • Ghostbed King Sheets Review

Funny how our little baby’s arrival in the world changed our schedule! By the time we got back from the hospital, we had a whole lot of packages (and mail) waiting for us, so a backlog came up for product reviews! Nevertheless, here’s a (delayed) review of the Ghostbed sheets we received. With a newborn, finding time to unpack stuff and do laundry can take ages, but here’s an honest and unbiased review of the product. Do note that we received this product for free in exchange for a review. Since we just moved to a new house a few months ago, we upgraded our bed from a full to…

  • Groupon Review

I have been including Groupon as part of our activities in some of our travel posts but never really got a chance to properly review the site. Here’s our review of Groupon’s offerings, and if it buying vouchers from the site is worth it. It’s no secret I’m a big fan of Groupon. From shows (Cirque du Soleil, for example), concerts, and attractions, we have saved a lot of money by not paying full price for the entry fees or additional fees that Ticketmaster levies on concerts and shows. I’ve used Groupon to search for events in the area we live in as well as traveling to, and to look…
