6 Best Downtown Restaurants in Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Staying in downtown Sheboygan? Perfect, because everything is just a quick walk away from your accommodation. There are plenty of food and shopping options in downtown Sheboygan that you probably won’t have time to try them all. Here are the best downtown restaurants in Sheboygan in my opinion, as someone who has visited the area multiple times.

Sly’s Salooon Brat in Sheboygan Wi

Sly’s Downtown Salooon: Bratwurst Galore in Sheboygan

Cuisine Type: German, Bratwursts, Quick eats

Sheboygan is the Bratwurst Capital of the Midwest, so don’t leave town without having one of their world-famous brats. The best spot to get a brat is Sly’s Downtown Saloon. And yes, the restaurant has 3 Os in the name, it’s not a typo.

Don’t be fooled by this restaurant’s appearance: it’s a dive bar, but all the locals swear by it. Order a brat plate (which comes with two sides) or just a brat, and bite into the goodness of it. It feels like you’re in Germany, eating one of their local cuisines without even leaving the country.

If you’re lucky, you might just end up talking to the famous Sly himself. Most days, he is in the saloon, interacting with his staff or even the customers. He’s a character and worth the experience of interacting with him.

Field to Fork: Brunch spot in Downtown Sheboygan

Cuisine Type: German, Bratwursts, Quick eats

Occupying the same seating area as the dinner spot, Il Vitrovo, Field to Fork is only open during breakfast and brunch hours. The menu offers sandwiches and typical breakfast fare, but if there’s one thing you must order while in the restaurant? It’s a smoothie. They have so many smoothie options, it’s hard to choose just one. You can even get a smoothie infused with coffee. And of course, if you’re more of a coffee purist, you can also get your barista coffee with your breakfast from Field to Fork.

Il Ritrovo: Italian Restaurant serving dinner in Sheboygan

Cuisine Type: Italian

If you plan to dine here, make a reservation, especially on weekends. This place gets packed, and wait times can be long if walking in.

The menus are in Italian, so use Google Translate if you’re a bit wary of what you’re getting, especially if you are a picky eater. The main courses are wood-fired pizzas, with interesting topping mixes. Some specials focus on pasta dishes, but there’s not a lot of pasta on the menu.

For the drink, get the lavender lemonade. It is very good, and I highly recommend it. This drink is unfortunately not refillable, so don’t blame me if you end up buying more than 1 or 2 glasses!

Before you leave, get a gelato as a dessert. The flavors change, and it is prominently featured at the front of the restaurant. If you get overwhelmed with the choices, don’t fret: you can request a sample before you commit to a flavor.

Before you leave the restaurant, look for the cheese cooler. There is a clear plexiglass on the floor and a mirror where you can peek through at the cheese stored in the basement. It’s a cheese lover’s bucket list item.

Trattoria Stefano: high-end Italian food in Sheboygan

Cuisine Type: Italian

Celebrating an event or want a high-end date night with your significant other? Trattoria Stefano is the spot to book. Open only during dinner, Trattoria Stefano is considered a high-end restaurant in the Sheboygan area. Perfect for those who want to have a quiet evening date or when celebrating a special occasion.

Dinner at the Black Pig Restaurant Sheboygan WI

Black Pig: The best truffle fries in Sheboygan

Cuisine Type: American

The Black Pig serves American cuisine and is known for their truffle fries and their steak. The ambiance is dark and romantic, and if you’re with a bigger group, you can reserve one of the private rooms in the back of the restaurant.

I recommend the two things you have to order while dining in the restaurant: truffle fries as an appetizer, and a steak for dinner. They will fill you up, and they are the best I’ve had in the area. The truffle fries are not overbearing, nor are they greasy, and have just the right amount of parmesan and truffle flavor mixed in.

Stefano’s Slo Food: Fresh grocery and quick meals

In a hurry and want something quick and fresh in the downtown area? Head to Stefano’s Slo Food, where you can get deli items and other ready-to-eat meals in the grocery store. They have a cafe onsite too, if you need an afternoon caffeine fix with your lunch or snack. If your hotel doesn’t offer breakfast, you can quickly grab bread, meats, and cheese, and have a DIY charcuterie and breakfast spread.
